Technical Bulletin 3-12/93Color fracture on Matchprint™III color proofing film can result in flakes of color breaking away from the polyester film. When color fracture occurs, flakes of color can accumulate throughout the laminator on surfaces such as the upper entrance tray, upper feed rollers, color guides and laminating rollers. These flakes of color can then redeposit during subsequent laminations of color proofing materials causing them to become embedded in the final proof. Color flaking is often caused from edge damage due to the cutting of proofing materials. For this reason, Technical Service DOES NOT recommend cutting proofing materials. Various sizes of proofing materials are available. If cutting of proofing materials is necessary, follow these guidelines. *Use a sharp hand knife or paper cutter to cut proofing film. Do not use a razor blade or scissors. *Cut proofing film color side down. Other guidelines to follow are: *Always handle color proofing film carefully. Do not kink or damage edges. *Store proofing film in a flat position at all times. *Clean laminator upper entrance tray prior to each color lamination. *DO NOT reuse 3M™ Ultrawipe™ cloth. *Follow the maintenance schedule in the MR-447 Laminator Operator's Service Manual.
